Thankfully, there’s yet another sign that the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to diminish.
After a season of lost business opportunities from trade show postponements and cancellations, exhibitors and attendees can now confidently make plans for live events. This is thanks in part to safety guidelines issued by the International Association of Exhibits and Events (IAEE).
This is expected to add to the industry momentum that is already seen at international trade shows. A significant number of trade shows, exhibits and conferences have been held in China and exhibitor participation / attendance was at near-normal levels.
At Divinitas, we’re adjusting our approach to trade show exhibit design and production to accommodate the new guidelines. So far, we’ve been able to generate designs that optimize safety while also enabling effective brand projection and traffic flow for our client exhibitors.
Most of the COVID-19 safety guidelines are familiar, since they’re already in place in most retail, sports and entertainment environments. These include preventing close contact through safe distancing practices, regular cleaning of surfaces and spaces, and greater control over traffic patterns.
Additionally, the recommended guidelines include such measures as:
- The use of touchless (electronic and digital) alternatives for engagement with booth visitors.
- The use of plexi-barriers, where applicable
- Removal of roadblocks and furnishings that could result in attendees gathering too closely
Executives for trade shows scheduled in 2021 are quickly adopting the disease control and prevention guidelines. This provides all parties a clearer basis upon which to develop their show strategies. For instance, NPE 2021, the major plastics industry event scheduled for next May, has officially incorporated most of the IAEE recommendations.
Convention centers such as the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida are adhering to guidelines from the CDC (Center of Disease Control). They continue to urge people to take health precautions including washing hands regularly and observing social distancing.
